If you are a family making 100K per year, but have enormous debt, will you be able to get free or reduced health care? What about the family that makes 50K but has zero debt or the young single person making 25K with no debt? How will they decide who can afford insurance or not? There will be nothing free about the health care. But perhaps they can negotiate better pricing so people aren't paying 800 a month for a family of 4 just for the insurance.

im not sure about the real value of the dollar, so im going to give my opinions in pounds and you can work out nthe exchange rate. I would say a family on £30k should get subsidised health care. Those earning under £15k should get free health care. All children regrdless of social circumstance should have free or subsidised health care. Edit* in usd at current exchange rate. £30k= $50k £15k=$25K. £20k is the average income over here, so 2 parents/people = 40k pounds. = 65 332 USD. therefore the average family shouldn't recieve subsidised health care, so you shouldn't worry about huge tax rises. edit2** The answer to high taxes is emmigrate. First of all, Obama is not going to bring in universal healthcare. He wants to make insurance more available to all. As for the details of this, the government is still working on this. Second, of course universal health-cover sucks. That is why we in Western Europe have it. We think, hmm, our healthcare system sucks. I know, lets keep it. I guess that is the same with Japan and Canada as well. FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet. FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage. That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.
