Vegan Diet Help and Approval?

I need a beginner book on vegan nutrition, not cooking, not recipes, just how to work out a healthy diet + nutritional values of different types of vegan foods and so fore and alternate diets based off of lifestyle e.g If your into height lifting, fitness etc I went to see a dietitian in August. She very brief and not very helpful. I really wanted to work out a diet specifically for me, according to my weight and how much I wanted to gain/maintain. I was kind of put off from then but I hope to get back on my feet. I think, I'll buy "Becoming Vegan" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina

Here are nutrition recommendations and info. from vegan registered dietitian Jack Norris at Vegan Outreach in the USA It boils it down to the basics. Also helpful, the Vegetarian Resource Group They have a book list There's also a very informative position paper from the American Dietetic Association One of the authors of that paper also contributed to the nutrition section of a book called Simply Vegan (updated 4th Edition). For nutritional values of food, you could try the USDA nutrient database http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

Go for "Becoming Vegan." I recommend that you check it out from the library first. I started with that one. But I didn't feel the need to buy it because it's one of those things that you read and absorb, and then never need to read again. I've never read "Complete Idiots Guide To Vegan Living" but it has good reviews on Amazon. "The Vegan Diet As Chronic Disease Prevention: Evidence Supporting the New Four Food Groups" is another one that you might want to check out, but I've never read it so I can't recommend buying it. A person giving it just two stars said this about it: "If you're new to veganism and looking for an introduction to vegan issues, you may want to read this. If you want anything more in-depth or scholarly, look elsewhere." Honestly, I personally never needed any more information than what was presented in "Becoming Vegan"
